Apple released the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5C in the second half of 2013. Samsung released the Galaxy S5 in the first half of 2014. In case these were on your potential shopping list, let’s take a look at the specs to see which device is better for you.
iPhone 5C or Galaxy S5? Decide the best budget smartphone
Apple iPhone 5C
The Apple iPhone 5C has a 4 inch screen and uses IPS LCD technology. The device is capable of a 1136 x 640 pixel resolution which puts the pixels per inch right at 326. The iPhone 5C is available in an 8GB, 16GB and 32GB model and it comes with 1GB of on-board LPDDR2 RAM. The back of the device houses an 8MP camera while the front has a 1.2MP shooter. All of this is powered by a non-removable 1,510mAh capacity battery (Apple says you can get up to 8 hours of LTE usage and up to 10 hours of WiFi usage).
Samsung Galaxy S5
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display capable of a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. This puts the pixels per inch right at 432 and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The Galaxy S5 is available in both a 16GB and 32GB model, but it also comes with a microSD slot that allows you to expand the storage up to an additional 128GB. It has 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and is powered by a removable 2,800mAh capacity battery. The back of the device houses a 16MP camera while the front has a 2.1MP shooter.
It’s really hard to compare these two devices. It’s obvious the Apple iPhone 5C is a mid-range device while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a high-end device. The only thing that comes close here is the price. You can pick up a 16GB iPhone 5C from the Apple store for $549. The 32GB model will cost you an additional $100. You can pick up a 16GB Samsung Galaxy S5 from Amazon for $694. Both of these prices are contract-free, of course.
